Reviews for the Avenlur Walnut Modular | Swedish Ladder Jungle Gym - Wall Mounted
Shipping was super fast and just as I expected from other reviews in terms of quality, look, and set-up. Kids love it so far. I am including this pic for those with smaller homes without a dedicated playroom-- because I went back and forth as to whether I wanted to use my only wall with 6 studs (my living room wall) and make a hybrid play/living room. It actually looks pretty cool as an accent wall, and added benefit is that I don't want my 3 year old climbing this unattended, and this way I'm not banished to a basement playroom with them begging to climb it all the time (my experience with a basement swing we set up) ha!
Read all the reviews before purchasing because they're all really helpful in deciding whether to get it. What advice would I give? It is not an easy afternoon project. This is a multi-evening process working with two people-- maybe 8 hours total spent putting it together, and my husband is pretty handy. And let's not forget we have toddlers... so yeah multi-day project, but worth it! Don't use their hex screw, get a longer handled one for added torque or your thumb will be hurting not even halfway through putting it together.
Perfect still for even an almost 6 year old (the blue outfitted kid in the pic), though I feel like the bar thing the swing hangs from is straining a little from his weight on the swing (he's small for his age).. so maybe any older and this bar is not suitable for rotational forces like that. We accidentally put on some of the rock wall panels on backwards and I actually really like the look of the irregular holds rather than a perfect pattern-- more visually interesting and some added challenge for the climber. The swing does come a little close to the wall as other reviews stated, so kids have to be good at swinging straight and not rotating their bodies on it-- less than perfect, but kids still love it. A lot of comments here have 3-6 year olds saying they wish they got it sooner, but honestly I think this age range is perfect for it. Younger than 3 and I'd be worried about them breaking their neck-- but I know the benefits of risky play--- just commit yourself to more need of supervising playtime at home for safety :)).
Love it!
The wood finish is beautiful and smooth. Get some good crash pads for the kids, I'm finding the nugget isn't quite big enough to cover a falling zone so my husband pulled out his crashpad for added safety.

This is so well built! Strong enough to hold adult weight, large enough to entertain kids of all ages. Our number 1 purchase for our kids by far. This is used all day every day. I really wanted aomething that didnt feel too little kiddish, something my kids could get a lot of use out of even in the next couple years. This is it. I am tempted to buy another for the other wall. Every kid (and adult, lol) that comes over is drawn to thisclimber!!

Best purchase for my very active son. He loves climbing it. It was very easy to put together just time consuming. We bought a crash pad to go underneath. Such a great setup for years to come.

The Walnut Modular is a very cool system out of the box, and overall I think it’s a good value and good quality compared to other options out there. There are, however, a few things I wish I understood before purchasing.
If you’re installing it in a basement, you may have a soffit like we do. The Walnut itself fits nicely underneath ours, but if you install the Swedish ladder, you may not be able to use the highest tier to mount attachments. The soffit gets in the way of the angle needed to install them. It’s not the end of the world, but definitely something that would have been helpful to know when planning the configuration.
I also didn’t realize that the ring wall was a required panel. I wish the modular system allowed you to choose which panels you want rather than having a predetermined combination.
The biggest limitation for us was the monkey bars. If you attach them to the Walnut system, they have to run parallel to it and attach to panels at both ends. In our space, this severely impacted our ability to actually use the Walnut panels and especially the Swedish ladder. This may be less of an issue with higher ceilings or the tallest version, but it didn’t work well for us.
Because this is marketed as a modular system, I assumed we would be able to attach one end of the monkey bars to the Walnut and have them extend perpendicular from it, creating a corner or L-shaped configuration. That isn’t possible. Both ends need to be supported by panels. We ultimately had to purchase two additional modular panels and install the monkey bars on an entirely different wall to get the functionality we wanted. That was probably my biggest disappointment because the system isn’t quite as flexible or modular in practice as I expected it to be.
I also wish there were additional color options. The soft, almost pastel colors are sweet, but they make the system feel a little younger. One of the things I liked about the Walnut was the idea that it could last throughout childhood and mature with your child, so I would love to see some more sophisticated or neutral color choices offered as well.
That said, overall I’m happy with the system. My son is autistic and very active, and this is exactly the type of setup we needed for him. It gives him so many opportunities for movement and active play at home, and I think he will get years of use out of it. Despite some limitations I wish had been clearer before purchasing, I still think the Walnut is a well-made, thoughtfully designed system and a good value for the quality.

Overall it is good quality and we love it but there were some challenges with assembly and installation. Inspection and quality control for each item could use improvement before shipping with as much as this product costs. Some of the allen screws threads were stripped but customer service shipped replacements so no issue there. If your home is newer you could have 24” stud placement so you will need to mount 3- 8ft wood pieces to your stud before attaching the jungle gym to the wall. I used 3-8ft 1x4’s sanded & sealed w/ #12 3” screws, used 8 screws in each board to make sure they were secured to the studs then used the provided screws to mount the jungle gym to my 3 boards. That went smoothly. The problem came after mounting it. Per the instructions you then have to remove the frame for the rock climbing section to install the rock climbing panel. The pilot holes on the side of the frame do not line up with the panels and there are no pilot holes on the top or bottom of the frame so I drilled those myself. Once the rock climbing panels were attached to the frame the frame no longer lined up while trying to attach it back to the rest of the frame on the wall. It was very difficult to get the allen bolts to align and go back in. I’m am very experienced with carpentry and diy so I was able to do some work to get it back up without compromising the integrity of any of the wood pieces. There is still one allen bolt that will not go in because the recessed threads in the back piece is recessed more than any of the others. I will be able to fix it but if you are not experienced with carpentry or have the correct tools this could be challenging for install. I don’t love the pastel colors of the rocks for the climbing section but not a big deal. The wood ‘rocks’ on the slide were a little rough but I sanded those myself. I would suggest the find an easier way to be able to remove the rope ladder, rings, and swing without have to tie/untie knots each time. If those aren’t being used they get in the way while playing and there’s no where to really put them without completely undoing each knot and taking them off completely. Also some of the wood rods twist and the shoulder be staying in place so bolting those from the side of the frame would be better than glue. It would also be nice if they allowed you to choose the 3 sections you want for the modular, my kids don’t love the rope wall section so it would’ve been nice if we could’ve chosen the ring wall or 2 rock climbing wall sections instead. I might eventually buy the ring wall instead or separate the sections to different walls so the swing has more space because if one kid is swinging there’s not much else another kid can do while they are on the swing. Over we do like it but for as much as it costs there should be better attention to detail on each piece and making sure all holes line up before shipping.

My daughter put it together by herself for my granddaughter. She said it was fairly easy to do, very sturdy and was even able to hang it herself. We are quite pleased with the “birthday gift” from the whole family.

Took a few hours to build. The built-in stud bars were great. Once we found the first stud, everything lined up perfectly. My 2 year old loves that the slide can be so low and she can get on it on her own. She hasn't used the rope stuff much but she attempts the ladder and rock climbing daily.

ALL of our kids ages 11, 4 and 15 months are enjoying this gym. We love it! My only regret is not getting it sooner. It’s so much fun. Very versatile and keeps them occupied constantly. Took my husband about 4-5 hours to put it together. I added the fun colorful wallpaper behind it to add some color! Overall we are very happy.
